Alixa & Naima of Climbing PoeTree and Leah Song & Biko of Rising Appalachia are joining forces to weave together a powerful performance of award winning poetry, hip hop, multimedia theater, southern soul, and international roots music. Climbing PoeTree and Rising Appalachia have made their life’s work crafting performances of deep courage and catharsis, each touring globally for more than 10 years with high profile artists in sold out venues with infectious ideas of how people can shape their own destinies. The Amplified Sunlight Tour will travel across the islands of Hawaii on a tour that promises to inspire and awaken the senses!

   Climbing PoeTree  
 

 
Climbing PoeTree interweaves spoken word, hip hop, and award-winning multimedia theater to expose injustice, heal from violence, and make a better future visible, immediate, and irresistible. In 15 self-organized tours over the past 10 years, Climbing PoeTree has blazed stages in more than 70 cities across the U.S.–including 11,000 miles traveled on a bus converted to run on recycled vegetable oil–and abroad from the UK to Mexico, South Africa to Cuba. Their soul-stirring performance has been featured alongside powerhouses such as Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Danny Glover, Cornel West, Angela Davis, Alice Walker, Saul Williams, Sonia Sanchez, The Last Poets, & Dead Prez.

 

 

Leah Song
  

Leah Song is a powerful songstress, musician, multi-instrumentalist, storyteller, poet, and global griot steeped in the traditions of Southern Soul and international Roots Music. Living between New Orleans, Cuba, India, Appalachia, and Latin America she tears into songs with outrageous prowess- incorporating sultry vocals, rhythm, banjo, guitar, ballads, dance, and storytelling into her work. Both a performer and a teacher, she travels with fire under her belt, songs in her pocket, and a global girth that carries her spirit to every corner it touches. Come experience her solo work as one part of the internationally acclaimed project Rising Appalachia.
