2015 marks the 10 year anniversary of our every-growing story gathering tapestry S.T.I.T.C.H.E.D. that many of you have contributed to! We celebrated with an installation of the entire project (6,000 stories) in the biggest park in Brooklyn on Saturday August 29th. We also launched the official
August 29th also marks the 10 years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the Gulf Coast, and the onslaught of its devastating aftermath. In the wake of the storm, the collective need for us as a people to testify to our lived experiences and to confront the misrepresentations in mainstream media became even more apparent. We challenged ourselves to think of a way we could not only communicate truths from the communities we represent, but also facilitate in the cross-pollination of the stories of people across this country and the globe that we’d meet on our migration. In this manner S.T.I.T.C.H.E.D. was born and we began to gather Stories Testimonies Intentions Truths Confessions Healing Expressions and Dreams on square pieces of cloth and have sewn them together ever since.
